Dangerous Love Apr. 26th, 2006 @ 10:23 am
A couple of weeks ago at the soup kitchen I volunteer at once a month (it's run by a sister church of ours), there was a break in work and we were standing around talking and somehow the war in Iraq came up; now I have increasingly found it difficult to align with either Right or Left on anything, but I have been bothered by our President's view of freedom being spread by the spread of Democracy, I mean shouldn't he, a Christian, know that the path of freedom lies through Christ Jesus?
The point was brought up that this whole giving them freedom thing isn't working as well or as fast as we were led to believe, and then the idea of militarily imposing regime change was questioned, and I asked why we a "Judeo-Christian" are "putting our trust in chariots". Then I was asked what, if we as Christians are concerned with the way people are being mistreated (as we should be) how change should be effected?
Love; that was Christ's answer and should be ours as well!
What would have happened if instead of spending billions on armaments and fuel we overwhelmed the country in question with well placed unconditional aid(feeding the poor, giving them good meds); if we did that without pushing an agenda, then when people ask why we are doing this we can tell them that we have been given much and are commanded to feed the poor and care for the fatherless and widow.
To quote Johnny Cash in Walk the Line when told that christians would be turned off by him cheering up rapists and murderers in prison "Well they're not christian then"
Love CAN change things! Love is how Christ brought about the new creation, and it is His Love through us that will bring about the fulfillment of His Kingdom on earth, not having our doctrines perfectly aligned.

Blessed Easter Apr. 17th, 2006 @ 10:58 am
We had a wonderful Holy Week (busy too, with church or church related engagements all but Monday and Wednesday). The Easter Vigil was even better than last year, possibly due to the fact that there was a baptism this year, also both of my sister's families that are local worshiped with us.
Easter was fun we had a breakfast potluck at church followed by another baptism and joyous worship with the choir processing through the congregation saying: "He is alive!" over an over, children ringing bells joyfully during the hymns (other times too, as children often don't stay still for long) thunderous ALLELUIAS and beautiful sunshine when pouring rain was forecast. We feasted with the Eyres, Aunt Marilyn, the Enloes, and the Hathaways; then us guys went target shooting, the kids hunted candy filled eggs, and we all visited into the evening.

Revision Apr. 15th, 2006 @ 04:19 pm
Well, Noelle's Easter dress (shown in previous posts) was actually too small for her, so we had to exchange it today, and found the dress we had originally spotted and wanted a couple months ago, in the right size! The dress we took back was 3-6 months, and too tight in the chest. The new one fits her perfectly, and is 9 months.

» A new commandment...
This Maundy Thursday I found myself asking what Maundy meant. After finding that out I was thinking about the passage in the Gospel of St. John (esp. 13:34), and again reminded of it in church...and I realized that sadly this commandment is still new to almost all of us: "that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another." This is the message of Holy Thursday! We also sang a beautiful hymn titled "Where Charity & Love Abound" well worth reading if you can find a copy (the lyrics aren't online as the copyright is still held). So I ask you: are you willing to die for that brother or sister who confesses Jesus as the Christ but worships or believes differently...My Roman Catholic Brother are you willing to die for your Lutheran Brother? My Eastern orthodox Sister will you wash the feet of your Baptist Brother? Lord teach me the way of Your Love, the way of thorns, ridicule, scourging and death on the accursed tree!!

» Whew!!!
We were having our tires and oil changed today and decided to do some mall shopping while waiting, okay so far. As we were leaving the mall we happened by a gumball stand that the boys just couldn't pass up, when in our search for quarters we discovered that my "wallet" was missing (those who have seen said wallet will understand the quotation marks). We retraced all our wanderings, ask several people in both stores we visited and mall information to no avail. So we picked up our van and went home and called all the card companies to cancel the old cards. We then decided to finish our shopping and then out for dinner. After coming home I was checking the mail and there between the screen and front doors was my wallet, returned with nothing taken!!!
God be praised!

» I'm Thankful God Made Me A Man...
...because I'm just not tough enough to be a mom. I've had a good opportunity this winter to stay at home more and I have slowly (hey I did just say God made me a man) realized that no matter how hard a day I've had I have no room to complain. For starters: I don't have to bring my costumers home with me; I am also not responsible before God for their actions (not that my Wife is solely responsible for our children's actions but I think you know what I mean). It has been difficult but a blessing especially this last week as Rebekah then David then Noelle and now Timothy all have come down with a bad cold. Pray for us please! Oh, and more pics coming Wednesday.
» Ashes to ashes, dust to dust...
Well Lent is here and all of us received our ashes for the first time in our lives yesterday, I really appreciate this time when I am compelled by people and things outside myself to a deeper spiritual life.
I am learning to fast this lent, also I am reading through the bible again and hoping to finish reading Augustine's Confessions, I am also seeking to make prayer a greater part of my life.
Let us call upon the Lord, for in His compassion and His mercy He will hear and heal us!

» Joy comes in the morning...
Noelle Joie Lalaith (Meaning "Birth of Joy and Laughter") was born at 8:12am, is 24" long and 9 lbs. 14 ozs.. She is so beautiful and wonderful and already has her Daddy wrapped around her little finger. Both Mama and Noelle are doing well (other than being tired), but enough talk, picture time!
» Elizabethtown, and grownup Timothy
We watched Elizabethtown last night, it was pretty good; the filming style and soundtrack I especially liked; it left us both with one question though: what was the problem with those shoes!!!
I woke up to boy sounds this morning (how unusual, huh?), and when I was awake enough to hear what they were saying, I heard Timothy opening the door and saying "David, you go back to sleep!!" he then proceeded to use the bathroom without being told! Hooray!
Last night I was reading Ancient-Future Time to Rebekah as she and the boys were finishing up dinner, and he was talking about us being in Christ after our baptism, well I read on and soon after that portion Timothy said Excuse me and I said what?, I want to hear the part about baptism again! he said.
» Time Flies
Well we now have a two and three year old in the house. It is amazing to think back on how time has flown, I mean five years ago I had just met Rebekah, four years ago we had been back from our honeymoon like four days, three years ago we had a little one month old, and just two years ago we were recuperating from 36 hours of labor and delivery. David is such a joy; it just goes to show how wise Our Father is! It is hard to imagine life without our little two year old(who isn't terrible, unless terribly cute counts). He is trying hard to keep up with his big brother in everything, even potty training (parts of which he seems to get better than Timothy). So a BIG Happy Birthday to David Joseph Adriel and many happy returns!! P.S. there is a pic on my other blog
